How to reach the Museion

Museion, Bolzano’s museum of modern and contemporary art, lies in the heart of South Tyrol, with a view across the peaks of the Rosengarten massif. Since 2008 it has occupied its new venue, designed by the Berlin firm KSV: a striking piece of futuristic architecture inspired by the concepts of transparency and fluidity. Thanks to a bold, international exhibition programme that presents the latest and greatest in contemporary art, often for the first time in Italy, Museion has made a name for itself as one of the leading contemporary art museums in the Alpine area, and Italy as a whole.
The collection boasts more than 4500 works which are presented cyclically in themed shows, often in dialogue with other collections, both public and private. It reflects the museum’s history and past exhibitions, and covers areas including art and language, sculpture, artistic critiques of the contemporary period and the work of non-European artists.
Meeting place Museion is committed to encouraging the public to experience and engage with contemporary art, with a packed programme of mediation and events. In the summer months the media façade lights up the city with striking artist videos, while the Passage area, which also hosts external initiatives, makes Museion a key hub for cultural events including music, dance, and performance.
