How to reach the Nature Park Visitor Center

The motto of Rieserferner-Ahrn / Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park Visitor Center is “The boundaries of nature, the limits of human kind.” When you first enter the center, a film shot from the perspective of an eagle affords you an unusual impression of the park.
A 3D relief provides visitors with multimedia information concerning the park’s mountains, trails, refuges, lakes and waterfalls. A pendulum gives visitors a close-up look at how the mountains arose, while a kind of stone puzzle provides insight into the geological structure of the mountains. At the center you can also marvel at, observe, and be amazed by altitudes of 3,000 meters and beyond, glacier shrinkage, minerals, life-size hand-carved birds of prey, resilient lichen, and the valley’s typical dialect. Visitor information systems provide information concerning nature, the landscape, and the evolution of the nature park region. And for kids there are fairy tales and legends from times past.
Visitors to Rieserferner-Ahrn / Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park Visitor Center experience spatially and temporally all of the beauty and boundaries that are found in the park.

July and August also opened on Sunday.

How to reach the Habsburger Museum

The Habsburg Museum is the private collection of Hermann Pegger, who over the years has collected historical objects from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the liberation struggle of 1809.

How to reach the Capriz – the dairy adventure world

The Capriz cheese factory invites visitors to immerse themselves into the art of artisan goat cheese making. The exhibition shows in the rooms on the ground floor and in the basement the whole process of making goat cheese, starting from the goat as the supplier of the primary raw material, the goat milk, all the way to the final product and its correct storage. The exhibition is spiced with a number of interactive elements.

How to reach the Thurn Castle local museum

Sacred art is here surrounded by old stone walls: ancient altarpieces and consecrated panels from the 16th century, early Baroque statues of saints, and religious paintings delve deep into the history of the Val d’Ega. The local museum in Castle Thurn is attached to the present-day town hall in a Romanesque tower dating from the 13th century, which was once used as a residence and, around 1341, for court sittings. In 1911 the residence of Thurn Castle was transferred to the municipality of Nova Ponente, which meticulously renovated the building and opened it to the historically minded.

The South Tyrol Planetarium is also the only one of its kind in South Tyrol. Unlike the observatory, the planetarium reveals the secrets of our universe and brings them to life with the help of state-of-the-art 3D technology and a sophisticated sound system. Visitors can go on a journey into the depths of space and discover what awaits mankind.

How to reach the School Museum

At Bozen’s School Museum you can appreciate the various aspects of school life as lived by the 3 ethnic groups inhabiting the territory (Italian, German, Ladin). The exhibition is complete with didactic materials, photographs, school reports, documents, furniture, and notice communications. Visitable on request.

How to reach the Villa Freischütz

Franz Fromm was a German businessman who moved to Meran/Merano with his family in 1905, where he later bought the Villa Freischütz, built in 1909. The villa became the new home for him, his family, and for his passionately collected pieces of art.
Thanks to the benefactress, his granddaughter Rosamaria Navarini (1926-2013), the collection was kept until today. It was her will to transform the villa into a museum and to open the treasures to the public.
The villa itself is considered a typical building of the “golden age” of Meran/Merano and contains a varied and valuable collection of arts and crafts. The objects and histories presented in the exhibition interweave into a portrait of a typical bourgeois family of the period.

How to reach the Little Museum in Lana

1991 Alexander Schwabl found during cleanup in the basement a few pieces of equipment from the Second World War. He decided to keep these things in order to preserve them from decay and thus from oblivion. Soon, other findings from other basements, attics, and storage rooms were added.

How to reach the Mill ensemble on the Thal stream

There were numerous mills and other grain-working facilities in the area around Aldein/Aldino, as corn was the staple food. Several have now been renovated and can be visited.

How to reach the Mercantile Museum

The Mercantile Museum of Bolzano, lodged in the homonymous building, is located in the heart of the ancient trading settlement, between Via Argentieri and Via Portici. The 18th-century building, designed by the Veronese architect Francesco Perotti, was used for over a century to accommodate the Merchant Court, a special court founded in 1635 by the Archduchess of Austria Claudia de’ Medici. Its purpose was to resolve every commercial dispute that arose between the merchants during the four international trade fairs.
Towards the mid-19th century, the material assets and competences of the Merchant Court were moved to the newly founded Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano. Considering the great historical and architectural value of the building, it was decided to carry out regular maintenance work and refurbishment. On this basis, the Chamber of Commerce restored its former seat and opened Mercantile Museum in 1997.
The museum, unique in its kind, is an important record of Bolzano’s mercantile history. In the first floor, the economic history is documented by several paintings, original documents, sumptuous furnishings and refined objects of applied art. In the second floor there are displayed documents of the commercial archive of the trading company ‘G. A. Menz’, one of the most important and representative merchant family in the city between the 18th and 19th centuries. Finally, the three medieval cellars under the palace that were recently restored, complete the history of the city, illustrating images of Bolzano of the 13th and 14th centuries.
