How to reach the Winery Schreckbichl

The 28 winegrowers from Schreckbichl near Girlan were rebels, who left the Garlan cellar cooperative in 1960 to found their own cooperative. They named them after their homeland, the small hamlet of Schreckbichl. But the Schreckbichler were also pioneers, because after their foundation they began to consistently turn the quality spiral. Today, the 300 members and employees of the winery continue to work consistently according to this model.
The 300 winegrowers cultivate the wine on a total area of 300 hectares. The vineyards are situated between 230 and 650 metres above sea level in one of the best growing areas in South Tyrol. A total of 12 varieties are cultivated, 35 percent of the wines are red wines and 65 percent white wines. Working in harmony with nature has long been an issue at Schreckbichl and applies not only to winegrowing, where cultivation is as gentle as possible and harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, but also includes the cellar. Since the completion of the conversion work in spring 2012, photovoltaic panels and a heat recovery system have made the winery largely energy self-sufficient.
