The ar/ge is the art association of Bozen/Bolzano, a non-profit institution that annually presents and sponsors four exhibitions of regional and international artists working in contemporary art, architecture and new media. Every exhibition is related to several events (artist talks, lectures, performances).

How to reach the “Greenhouse III”
The “Glasshouse III” in the market garden Schullian is the last example of this kind in South Tyrol. The artist Paul Thuile curated a permanent exhibition inside. Objects and historical photos, texts, videos, and interviews present the history of the garden culture, on which the founder of gardening, Franz Schullian left his indelible mark. But the exhibition also tells the stories of the ten oldest and most important market gardens in South Tyrol and presents the local protagonists of its development in the past 60 years.

How to reach the Max Valier observatory
The flickering sparkle in the skies above mingles with the murmur of the night. The stars shine down on Earth and tell of the beauty of outer space.
Stargazing is possible everywhere in Cornedo because one of the “finest night skies” – according to Astronomitaly is truly pitch dark here. Yet, day or night, stargazing in Europe’s first star village is a live issue! Because here, in San Valentino in Campo, can be found South Tyrol’s only astronomical observatory, the Peter Anich solar observatory and the only planetarium between the Brenner Pass and Trentino.
Whatever the weatherman might say, in South Tyrol’s planetarium the view of the universe is always cosmic and clear. Up to 53 star trekkers can sit in comfort – almost like real astronauts – and travel round the Earth in the Cosmos Simulator, through the rings of Saturn, to shimmering mists of colour and into the depths of the universe.
Max Valier observatory
Sun, moon, stars, planets – indeed, all that the universe has to offer – can be observed through several telescopes at an altitude of 1,340 metres above sea level. The Max Valier observatory, the Peter Anich solar observatory and the observation platform bring the sky over San Valentino in Campo just that little bit closer.
The complex is administered by the volunteers of the Max Valier Amateur Astronomers Association, who once a week introduce visitors to a Who’s Who of the starry sky.

How to reach the Semi-rural House
The small house located at Via Bari 11 in Bolzano is one of the very few “Semi-rural Houses” still standing today. In the 1930s, hundreds of these homes were built as a solution to the housing needs of the fast-growing working-class population. From the 1980s onwards, most of these homes were demolished in order to make space for high-density housing. The neighborhood’s desire to preserve the memory of the “Semi-rural Houses” led 2015 to the opening of an exhibition that explores the “Semi-rural Houses” history through photographs, videos, maps, three-dimensional models and captivating stories about everyday life.

How to reach the Franzensfeste Fortress
With its gigantic appearance and labyrinth of rooms, corridors, and stairways, the fortress of Franzensfeste/Fortezza belongs to the most interesting fortresses in the Alpine region. This masterpiece of Austrian fortress architecture was built from 1833 to 1838 and has a varied history. 2008 it was opened to the public and since then it hosts international and local exhibitions of art, architecture, and other events. The permanent exhibition “Kathedrale in der Wüste/Cattedrale nel deserto” (English: Cathedral in the desert) shows the building history of the fortress and its effects on the surrounding area.
The areal of the fortress includes also the bunker no. 3: It is located in the wood, east of the fortress, hidden under thick vegetation, and can be visited on request.

Reinhold Messner: My 15th 8000m high mountain is the sum of all my experiences
I have dedicated to the mountains and the mountain culture a unique project, a network of museums located in six extraordinary places in South Tyrol and Belluno. The Messner Mountain Museum is a place of encounter with the mountains, with mountain people and ultimately with ourselves. Every visit is like a mountain tour, especially recommended when the weather is good, and an MMM round trip (with the MMM Tour Ticket) is a unique experience!
With a central museum in Sigmundskron and five branch museums devoted to individual themes, Reinhold Messner has created a mountain museum that is truly unique. He describes the project as his “15th ascent over 8000 meters” – and makes use of it to communicate to visitors his knowledge and experience and the stories that derive from man’s encounter with the mountains.
MMM currently comprises six museums. MMM Firmian in Sigmundskron Castle near Bozen is the heart of the Mountain Museum; MMM Ortles in Sulden is devoted to the glaciers and the world of eternal ice; at MMM Dolomites on Monte Rite south of Cortina, the focus is on rock and mountain climbing in the Dolomites; MMM Juval in Juval Castle in Vinschgau relates the myths of the mountain. MMM Ripa in Bruneck Castle tells the story of the mountain peoples. In July 2015 the last MMM, MMM Corones, will open.
The Messner Mountain Museums are not conventional art or natural science museums; they have an interdisciplinary design. Each of the museums occupies a unique location, which helps relate the museum’s theme to the collections and the architecture. The geographical location, relics and works of art combine to form a whole.
The museum’s founder Reinhold Messner
Born in South Tyrol in 1944, Reinhold Messner has a track record of breaking with taboos – in rock climbing, on mountaineering expeditions, and crossing deserts and the Poles. For four decades he has built up a wealth of experience at the margins of the world that has enabled him to create a group of museums on the subject of the mountains. Reinhold Messner himself describes the project as his “15th ascent over 8000 meters”. His objective is to offer a study in human nature and the secrets it reveals when we find ourselves at the limits of our resources at the limits of the world. His philosophy – no artificial oxygen, no bolts, no communication – has made him a defender of those values that give mountaineering a dimension that has more to do with art than with sport. Although Reinhold Messner seeks primarily to define his basics for himself, his MMM has already become a global focus for the international mountaineering community.

The MMM Tour-Ticket is a collective ticket and entitles the holder to one entry each to Firmian, Juval, Ortles, Ripa, Dolomites and Corones. It is valid for one year from the date of issue. Available at all Messner Mountain museums.

How to reach the Messner Mountain Museum Ortles
The museum in Sulden am Ortler, an underground structure at 1900 m above sea-level, is devoted to the world of ice. ‘At the end of the world’ we call it. That is what it says on a 1771 map drawn by Peter Anich showing the glacier on the Ortler, beneath which the Ice Museum is located. At MMM Ortles Reinhold Messner tells of the Terrors of Ice and Darkness, Snow People and Snow Lions, the Whiteout, and the Third Pole. The museum houses the world’s biggest collection of Ortler paintings as well as ice-climbing gear from two centuries. Skiing, ice-climbing, and expeditions to the Poles are the themes. Visitors find themselves inside the mountain, where they are given a clear picture of ice mountains, the Arctic and Antarctic, the power of avalanches, and the pains taken by artists to depict the world of ice. Outside, the ice is very real, and round the corner, the Yak&Yeti offers fine fare from the snows of the Himalayas as well as the typical dishes of South Tyrol.

The Enchanted Mountain. The heart of the Messner Mountain Museum, MMM Firmian at Sigmundskron Castle near Bolzano, focuses on the human-mountain conflict.
Within the old walls of Sigmundskron Castle, complemented by a modern structure of steel and glass, beats the creative heart of the entire museum concept. In a tour, pictures, sculptures, symbolic objects and relics tell of the importance of the mountains for people. MMM Firmian is a unique meeting place with great views and insights.

How to reach the Lanserhaus
Since 2005 there has been a cultural and social centre in Eppan, which emphasises the diversity and economic importance of our large community.
Through extensive restoration work, the Lanserhaus – one of the many historic residences on the Überetsch low mountain range – has been transformed into an attractive cultural and economic centre and made accessible to the public.
Treasures recovered – an archaeological expedition through Eppan
The permanent exhibition in the vaulted hall of the historic Lanserhaus offers an overview of the Eppan settlement history from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Original finds are on display, from Neolithic arrowheads to crossbow bolts from the Knights’ period. The exhibits are on loan from the Bolzano City Museum, the Bolzano Museum Society and the State Office for Historical Monuments, which provides interesting objects from the collection of the brothers Max and Walther von Mörl. The exhibition, curated by archaeologist Dr. Hanns Oberrauch, accompanies visitors on an exciting journey through 10,000 years of Eppan history and refers to the numerous archaeological sites in the surrounding area.

How to reach the Museum Castle Moos-Schulthaus
In Eppan | Piganò, above Castel Gandegg, you find near Castel Englar the residence Moos Schulthaus. A little bit hidden, how it is usual for an insider tip, you can find a nice little museum for Middle Aged living.
Around the middle of the 13th century the dynasty of the Rottenburger built a Romanesque residential tower above the location Pigenò. Around the 14th century it was transformed and extended into a gothic residence for hunting. After the extinction of the Rottenburg in 1410, the complex ended up in the hands of the princes and later on to the Lords of Firmian and around 1500 to the Earl Spaur who expanded it even more. Until the middle of the 19th century it remained in the hands of the aristocrats of Schulthaus. With this intense change of property and the related architectural procedures caused a special fusion of connected elements, interlaced and on different levels situated premises and last but not least style characteristics of different époques. In 1958 Walther Amonn, merchant of Bozen and patron, bought the complex and had it costly restored and opened it for the public in 1985.
Well worth seeing are especially the frescos of the premises, which are a unique example of gothic mural art and give an insight in the life and philosophy of that time.
